WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (6-6, 3-3) won its second straight match with a 3-0 sweep of King (Tenn.) (6-7, 2-3) in Conference Carolinas action Friday night at Beddingfield High School. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17 over the Tornado.
Barton was led by freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) and junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 13 kills each while sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added five kills and 16 assists as the Bulldogs hit .275 for the match and limited the Tornado to a paltry hitting percentage of 0.019.
Elkins now has a team-high 202 kills on the year and moved into sixth-place on the school's all-time list for kills (1,171). Barton also swept its second straight opponent and did overcome nine service errors in the triumph.
King was led by Julie Ward (Berthoud, Colo.) with nine kills and eight digs but suffered its second consecutive loss.
Barton remains at home to take on Lees-McRae on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in league action at Ralph L. Fike High School while King faces Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., as well.
