Barton men’s basketball ends winning streak with 86-76 setback to Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton men's basketball team (14-6, 7-3) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with an 86-76 loss to Emmanuel (Ga.) (15-6, 8-0) in a Conference Carolinas showdown Saturday afternoon at Williamson Arena and Shaw Athletic Center.

The Lions, winners of eight straight games, were led by Austin Greene (Tallahassee, Fla.) with a game-high 24 points and Kendrick Colvin (Moncure, N.C.) with 21 points and 13 rebounds as Emmanuel completed the season sweep of Barton.  The Lions also moved into a first-place tie in the league standings with Belmont Abbey, who plays later tonight against King (Tenn.).

Barton was led by senior forward Bobby Stenborg (Garner, N.C.) with a team-high 18 points while sophomore guard Jake Kakar (Boston, Mass.) added 15 points in the losing effort for the visitors.

With the score tied at 71 with just under two minutes left, Emmanuel took the lead for good on a lay-up by Colvin at the 1:53 mark of the second half.  The lay-up started a 7-0 run by the Lions which put the contest away. Emmanuel also shot 53 percent (27-of-51) from the field and hit 24 free throws compared to the Bulldogs' four from the charity stripe.

Barton remains on the road to face Erskine in league action in Due West, S.C., on Saturday, January 26, at 4:00 p.m., while Emmanuel hosts North Greenville on Monday starting at 7:30 p.m.
