ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had several outstanding performances at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational this past weekend at the Irwin Belk Complex.
On the men's side, junior Micah Clemons (Greenville, N.C.) established an NCAA Division II provisional mark with a school-record 191'0" in the hammer throw while finishing fifth overall.
Two Bulldogs – freshmen Jimere Summers (Kinston, N.C.) and Dalton Mutz (Concord, N.C.) – provisionally qualified for the league championships in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.99 and 11.14 seconds, respectively. In addition, Barton sophomore Greg Gibbs' (Newark, N.J.) time of 2:00.09 was good enough to qualify for the conference meet as well.
In the men's developmental 1,500-meter run, Barton sophomores Nicholas Leek (Manahawkin, N.J.) and Evan Lee (Wilson, N.C.) finished second (4:14.22) and fourth (4:15.66), respectively, and qualified for the conference meet also.
The Barton's women's squad was led by freshman Takeitha Glaspie (Goldsboro, N.C.) with conference-qualifying marks in both the 100-meter (12.37) and 200-meter (26.12) dashes while sophomore Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) was another Bulldog to qualify for the league finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.23.
Barton had three other women's athletes earn a spot to the Conference Carolinas Championship: freshman Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) in the 800-meter run (2:29.01), freshman Ashley Teilborg (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) in the javelin (91'9") and junior Meghan Araldi (Albany, N.Y.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The Barton men's and women's track and field squads return to competition on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, at the Trojan Challenge in Mount Olive, N.C.
