WILSON, N.C. – Barton College Director of Athletics Todd Wilkinson has announced the elevation of Tyler Amerson to Interim Head Men's and Women's Cross Country & Track and Field Coach.  Amerson takes over for Chad Balentine, who stepped down citing family matters.  Amerson has been an assistant coach for the Bulldogs for the past two years.

"Barton Cross Country & Track and Field will reorganize quickly and I am pleased Coach (Tyler) Amerson will serve as our interim head coach," said Wilkinson.  "Tyler (Amerson) knows the institution and has a tremendous amount of pride for the program as a former student-athlete.  He will do a great job and Barton is fully committed to providing him the support needed to deliver a quality experience for the cross country and track and field athletes."

Amerson is a 2017 graduate of Barton with a bachelor's degree in sport management.  Amerson lettered four years on both the Bulldogs' men's cross country and track and field teams and was a two-time Academic All-Conference Carolinas honoree (2016 and 2017).

"I feel confident that we can continue to grow as a team and produce some strong performances throughout the outdoor season," said Amerson.  "We will continue to work hard daily and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the process."

Amerson is a native of Wilson, N.C., and graduate of Beddingfield High School.

Barton returns to competition on Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
