WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Barton indoor men's and women's track and field teams put together a string of impressive performances again Saturday at the JDL College Dual Meet Madness and Wake Forest University Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
On the men's side for the Bulldogs, the distance medley relay – consisting of sophomores Nicholas Leek (Manahawkin, N.J.), Evan Lee (Wilson, N.C.) and Greg Gibbs (Newark, N.J.) and freshman Timothy DeVore (Loganville, Ga.) – finished third overall with a time of 11:07.60.
Another third-place finish for Barton came from two-time All-American and senior Larry Russell (Sicklerville, N.J.) in the men's high jump with a 6'4". Meanwhile, sophomore Avery Smith (Charlotte, N.C.) took fourth place overall in the men's weight throw (a season-best 48'6").
In the women's competition, three Bulldogs earned qualifying times to the league championship meet: sophomore Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) in the 60-meter dash (8.05), freshman Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) in the 800-meter run (2:28.14) and freshman Danyetta Ruffin (Newport News, Va.) in the 400-meter dash (1:01.72). In addition, junior Janae Cunningham (Hubert, N.C.) had a season-best in the weight throw (41'7").
The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams next compete in the Liberty Kickoff on Friday, January 25, and Saturday, January 26, in Lynchburg, Va.
