Barton women’s tennis topples Crusaders, 6-3

WILSON, N.C.-Sophomore Smiljana Kljajic and freshman Ananya Sarkar won their doubles match together and then posted wins atop Barton College's singles lineup to highlight a 6-3 Conference Carolinas women's tennis victory over visiting North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Caroline Fischer also won both of her matches as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.

The Crusaders were unable to rally from a 3-0 deficit after doubles in falling to 1-9 and 1-3.

Kljajic and Sarkar had the toughest doubles test in the marquee match but eventually won 8-6 to improve to 3-2 paired together. Juniors Meredith Pruden and Alicia Lasry coasted 8-1 in the middle doubles match while Fischer teamed up with freshman Randi Price for an 8-4 triumph at No. 3.

Kljajic and Fischer won in straight sets to seal the team victory. Kljajic (5-2) triumphed 7-5, 6-1 and Fischer (4-2) dominated 6-2, 6-1.

Sarkar (3-2) rallied from a first set loss to finish off the match with another point for the Lady Bulldogs. Sarkar eventually won 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.

North Greenville won three of six singles matches in an attempt to level its league ledger. The Crusaders took the third, fourth and fifth position matches in straight sets

Barton next visits Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
