Barton women’s swimming drops season-opener against Cardinals, 144-118

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Barton College women's swimming team dropped a 144-118 decision to the Catholic University of America to open the 2018-19 season on Friday night in Washington, D.C. BC recorded eight first-place finishes against the Cardinals.

The team of freshman Adalaya Nemitz, sophomore Callie Burnette, sophomore Kazia Patzer, and sophomore Kleanza Cathers secured a second-place finish for the Bulldogs with a time of 1:56.63 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Nemitz, sophomore Kristen Price, sophomore Kaylee Davis, and sophomore Alayna Moore also brought home a second-place finish for Barton with a time of 1:44.92 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Cathers paced the Bulldogs with three first-place finishes in the contest, notching a time of 25.47 in the 50-yard freestyle. The Kitimat, Canada native recorded a time of 2:12.91 in the 200-yard backstroke while clocking a time of 2:18.37 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Moore tallied a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.79) and 100-yard freestyle (57.94), while junior Annika Jasek-Rysdahl finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:50.88) and 500-yard freestyle (5:48.15).

In her first contest for the Bulldogs, Nemitz tallied a victory in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.21) while adding a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.48).

Davis notched a pair of second-place finishes for Barton, clocking a time of 1:15.50 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a mark of 2:43.25 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore Adie Powell recorded a second-place finish for BC in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:27.66.

The Barton women head to Lexington, Va. on Saturday for a matchup against Howard University and the Virginia Military Institute. The Contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by VMI.
