MURFREESBORO, N.C.-Sophomore Jodi Barber scored a hat trick while junior Amber Brush and freshman Kathryn Smith both scored twice to lead the Barton College women's soccer team to a dominating 8-1 non-conference win at Chowan University on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Giselle Dominguez registered her first collegiate goal to account for the Lady Bulldogs other tally as Barton improved to 12-5 on the season. The Hawks lost for a sixth consecutive time, falling to 1-17.
Barton led from start to finish with Smith tallying the first two Bulldog scores in the first 13 minutes. Smith put BC on the board with a header just 77 seconds into play off a free kick taken by senior Kasey Byzewski and then beat the keeper at the 12:27 mark to double up the visitor's advantage. Sophomore Ashley Batcher was credited with an assist on BC's second goal.
Barber scored three consecutive goals for the Lady Bulldogs including her first just before the halftime horn. Barton's leading scorer headed in a free kick by freshman Grace Fehan just 13 ticks on the clock. The helper was the first collegiate point for Fehan.
The Royal Blue and White only held a 3-nil lead at the midway point despite outshooting Chowan 19-3 because goalie Tara Maready made nine of her 12 saves in the first 45 minutes.
Barber completed her second hat trick of the season in a three-minute span to begin the second half. Barber netted goals in the 56th and 58th minute, respectively, on passes from Byzewski and sophomore Emily Futral.

Byzewski moved into a tie with Barber for the league lead with eight assists after providing two accurate passes on Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs scored a total of five goals in the second half. Dominguez found the back twine from the top of the box in the 63rd minute. Brush completed Barton's scoring with a couple of goals. Brush's scored her first goal of the season in the 69th minute on an assisted play by senior Taylor DeMartini. Brush tacked on one last BC score in the 90th minute, ripping a direct kick past the goalie with 14 seconds left.
Barton was closing in on its seventh shutout of the season before Erica Jefferson spoiled the attempt with a breakaway goal in the 89th minute. Jefferson's team-high fourth goal came just 78 seconds before the end of regulation.
Junior starting goalie Carson Moore picked up the win in net making four saves over nearly 59 minutes of flawless work. Sophomore backup Kelsey Rothwell made one stop over the final 31 minutes but did allow the late tally.
