Barton College Women's Soccer
The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a fourth double-overtime win of the season, defeating King University, 3-2, during Barton College's Homecoming Saturday. Senior Taylor Parrish scored the golden goal as Barton improved to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Barton is guaranteed to have its first winning season over .500 since the Lady Bulldogs went 8-7-3 in 2008. The Lady Bulldogs' 11 wins are the most since the program won 14 matches in 2005.
Parrish has seven goals on the season, three of which have been game-winners in the second and final overtime period to provide BC with wins against Salem, Bluefield and King.
Sophomore Jodi Barber leads Conference Carolinas with 28 points on the season. Barber is averaging 1.75 points per game, which ranks 26th nationally in the NCAA Division II Statistics Report (thru games 10/27/13).
Parrish is third on the team with seven goals. Barber has a team-best 10 goals and sophomore Emily Futral has eight tallies. Barber (49th) and Futral (92nd) both rank in the national top-100 in goals per game. Freshman Kathryn Smith is a fourth Lady Bulldog with multiple goals on the season with three scores.
Barton distributes the ball well, with seven different players with at least two assists on the campaign. Barber once again paces the Lady Bulldogs with eight helpers. Other assist leaders for BC are senior Kasey Byzewski (6 assists), freshman Amanda Almonte (4), Futral (3), Parrish (2), Smith (2) and sophomore Lindsay Rembecki (2).
Junior Carson Moore maintains a stellar 1.15 goals against average and .824 save percentage in net. Moore has all 11 of the Lady Bulldogs wins in goal including six shutouts.
Barton is 5-4 on the road this season.
The Lady Bulldogs toppled Chowan, 8-1, last season behind a hat trick by Ashley Batchelor. Futral added two goals and an assist while Breanna Briggs tallied one goal and one assist. Barton has won the last three meetings against the in-state foe.
Chowan University Women's Soccer
The Hawks have lost five straight games and are 1-16 on the season. Chowan's only win of the season came against William Peace University, 2-1, on Oct. 11.
Erica Jefferson (3 goals) and Karen Ketelas (2) have accounted for five of the Lady Hawks seven goals on the season. Canesha Bradford and Samantha Persinger have the other two tallies.
Chowan has been shut out 11 times this season including in each of its last two matches.
Goalie Monica Hayward has had a busy season between the pipes for the Hawks. Hayward ranks third in D-II with 9.09 saves per game.
Chowan is giving up an average of nearly 32 shots per game.
The Hawks last defeated Barton, 2-0, in the 2009 season. Jefferson provided Chowan with an early 1-0 lead against the Lady Bulldogs last season scoring in the eighth minute before BC scored its eight unanswered goals.
Chowan will not be providing live stats or video for Wednesday's doubleheader.
