WILSON, N.C. – In the final home game of the 2016-17 regular season, the Barton women's basketball team took down visiting Lees-McRae College 71-60 on Tuesday night in Wilson Gym.
Barton (17-10, 14-7) also defeated the Bobcats (4-23, 4-17) back on Feb. 11 in Banner Elk, N.C. and solidified its position at one of the top four seeds in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament which starts next Monday.
Senior JerBria Smith chipped in 13 points, five rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes of action off of the bench.
The Lady Bulldogs struggled early on, making just five of its first 17 shots and trailed 17-11 after the first quarter. However, BC forced Lees-McRae to commit seven turnovers in the second quarter and laid claim to a 28-25 lead at intermission.
In the second half, the Royal Blue and White shot 59.2 from the floor and extended its lead to 11 points with just over eight minutes to play in the game as BC cruised to its seventh win in its last eight contests.
Barton concludes the regular season on Friday, February 24 against rival University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C. Tip-off against the Trojans is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
