Bulldogs run record to 6-1 with a home sweep

WILSON, N.C.-The Barton College men's tennis team posted its fourth shutout win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Guilford College at the Barton Tennis Complex on Thursday.

The Bulldogs continued to bully opponents in doubles, easily winning all three rounds before completing the domination with straight set triumphs in all six singles matches.

Barton improved to 6-1 overall and will next entertain Conference Carolinas foe North Greenville University on Saturday at 1 p.m. BC is a perfect 6-0 in duals it has hosted.

The Quakers, who are an NCAA Division III program, dipped to 1-2 overall.

Junior Jorge Pradilla highlighted the afternoon for the Bulldogs only losing one of 21 games he played. Pradilla first coasted to an 8-1 doubles victory paired with classmate Max Leppert in the middle bout. Pradilla (1-2) then notched his first singles win without losing a game.  

The Royal Blue and White upped its doubles record in dual matches to 18-3 (.857). Sophomore Rafael Ruiz and freshman Jake McCartney improved to 6-1 in BC's top spot with an 8-4 win. Sophomore Nick Genest and freshman Yaxi Pintado remained undefeated this spring at 4-0 by coasting 8-2 in the final slot.

All six Bulldogs that played in singles did not lose more than four games in each winning in two sets. Ruiz (5-2) won by matching 6-2 scores at No. 1; McCartney (5-0) stayed undefeated in his collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-0 rout at No. 2; Leppert (4-1) rolled 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3; Genest (3-2) coasted 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4; and sophomore Daniel Radu (2-1) dominated 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.

Pradilla's perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles feat at No. 6 came against Guilford freshman Blake Brown, who was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday. It marked the first loss for Brown in dual competition.
