OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. – Barton College senior Travis Broome is tied for eighth place in a field of 99 golfers after posting an even-par 72 in the opening round of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, which was played on the Lion's Paw course at Ocean Ridge Plantation.

The round, which included four birdies and four bogeys, continued Broome's strong play from two weeks ago at the Queens Invitational, where he finished third.

As a team, Barton did not carry over the same momentum from its third-place finish at the Queens event. The Bulldogs carded a score of 303 on Monday, which ranked 10th in a field of 18 programs.

Following Broome's 72, BC received 76s from junior Logan Zimarino and freshman Bryson Boyette, a 79 from junior Justin Plane and an 80 from junior Scott Pechacek. Competing as an individual, freshman Owen Dick also carded a 79.

Still, the Bulldogs remain just two shots behind three other teams and just six shots out of fourth place.

Lincoln Memorial University, ranked No. 21 nationally in the preseason, leads the tournament after shooting a 1-over 289.

Broome is three shots off the individual lead held by Nick Adams of University of Mount Olive. A total of 14 players finished round one at par or better.

The final round of the tournament will be played Tuesday. Barton will be one of the first teams off the 10th tee beginning at 8:30 a.m.
