WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's golf team will compete in five events during the fall portion of its 2017-18 season, beginning with a tournament it will host at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C., in early September.
The Cutter Creek Invitational, slated for September 4-5, will not only provide BC golf fans with their first look at this year's squad, but will also serve as an early preview of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Tournament, which will be held at the club next April.
"The Cutter Creek tournament will give our guys a chance to get some rounds in under competitive pressure," said Ashley Leonard, who begins her fifth season leading the Bulldogs. "It will also be a great opportunity for us to pick up a win early in the season. Our team is coming off of a runner-up finish at the conference tournament, so I am looking forward to getting the team back and watching them compete. I know the confidence is high within our team and they have a championship mentality."
Following the season-opener, Barton will compete again the following week at the Kiawah Island Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C., against one of the strongest fields of the entire year.
"Our fall schedule will test us once again early," Leonard said. "Getting off to a good start at Kiawah will be crucial for us and can set the tone for the remainder of the fall season."
The Bulldogs will make their seventh straight trip to the Myrtle Beach Invitational at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., October 2-3 before taking part in another key tournament the following week, the South/Southeast Regional Preview at Rock Barn Resort and Spa in Conover, N.C.
"We're very excited about competing in the Regional Preview at Rock Barn," Leonard said. Our team will face a very good region field and will also get to see the Rock Barn course which will host the NCAA Regional in the spring."
Barton will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule by playing in the Donald Ross Invitational on October 16-17. The event will take place in Morganton, N.C., at Mimosa Hills Golf Club, a course originally created in 1929 by Ross, one of golf's legendary designers.
The spring 2018 portion of Barton's schedule will be announced in the fall.
