MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Barton College junior Bobby Stenborg has been named to the 2017-18 NCCSIA All-State Men's Basketball Team for the College Division, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association announced Tuesday.
Stenborg was a Second Team selection by the NCCSIA after earning All-Conference Carolinas First Team and Conference Carolinas All-Tournament honors. He ranked second in the league in field goal percentage at 61.6 percent and fifth in scoring at 16.7 points per game. Stenborg also led the Bulldogs in rebounding at 5.9 boards per contest.
The Garner, N.C., resident reached double-figures in 24 of his 29 games played and surpassed the 20-point plateau nine times.
Stenborg, who transferred to Barton this year following a standout career at Brunswick Community College, was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week in early January after leading the Bulldogs to wins over top conference opponents King University and Lees-McRae College.
A total of 10 players were named to the two NCCSIA All-State Teams for the College Division (NCAA Division II, III, NAIA) representing institutions throughout North Carolina. Stenborg was the only player selected from a Conference Carolinas school, and one of just two non-seniors picked for the award.
He is the first Barton men's basketball player to be chosen for the honor since Chris Flemmings in 2013-14.
