WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's basketball team is ranked eighth in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll released Monday.
Barton (16-6), ranked No. 6 each of the past two weeks, slid two spots after a 1-1 week that included a 109-90 home loss to then-No. 4 Pfeiffer University, the nation's highest scoring team. The Bulldogs bounced back from that loss with a 90-78 road victory at North Greenville University on Saturday.
The Falcons (20-3) moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week's poll after beating the Bulldogs. Pfeiffer and Barton will square off in a rematch Tuesday night in Misenheimer, N.C., with first-place in Conference Carolinas at stake.
Limestone College (18-4), which is in a virtual tie with Pfeiffer at the top of the league standings one game ahead of BC, remained No. 3 in this week's poll despite a loss on Saturday at King University.
The top three spots in this week's poll remain unchanged, as Queens University (21-1) continues its stronghold on the No. 1 spot and Lincoln Memorial University (18-4) keeps the No. 2 slot once more.
Following Limestone and Pfeiffer in third and fourth, respectively, is UNC Pembroke in fifth. The Braves suffered a loss at now 8-14 Francis Marion University early in the week, but bounced back with a pair of wins, including a road victory at last week's No. 4 team, Augusta University.
Augusta (16-6) lost twice in three games last week and fell three spots to seventh. Fellow Peach Belt Conference member Columbus State University (16-5) made the biggest move of the week, jumping from unranked to sixth following a 3-0 week.
Trailing Barton is Wingate University (14-8) in ninth and USC-Aiken (15-6) in 10th. Wingate saw a 10-game winning streak end at Lincoln Memorial but still moved up one spot, swapping places with the Pacers after USC-Aiken lost at Augusta.
The poll is administered and voted upon by regional members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
