TIGERVILLE, S.C. –  The Barton baseball dropped a 10-1 decision to nationally-ranked North Greenville University on Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas matchup.

The Crusaders (35-13, 18-7), ranked No. 28 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Poll, made their mark on the scoreboard early with four runs on five hits and two walks in the first inning of play. NGU scored on run in both the third and fifth innings before a four-run sixth inning chased Barton (28-19, 13-12) starter Dylan Ward from the game.

Ward (7-4) was tacked with the loss after giving up a career-high 10 runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts. Senior left-hander Justin Evans struck out three batters in an inning of relief, and sophomore Chase Long allowed just one hit with a walk in an inning out of the bullpen.

Barton's lone run of the game came in the eighth inning as senior Andrew Webster reached on a fielder's choice to third base and sophomore Troy Maslowski scored on a throwing error by the Crusaders.

Sophomore Gatlin Pate was a perfect 2-for-2 in the game with a double and two walks, while freshman Chase Riker was 2-for-4 on offense.

The Bulldogs and Crusaders conclude the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled for a Noon start time at Ashmore Field.
