WILSON, N.C. – The 2018-19 swimming season is poised to be an exciting time for the Barton College Bulldogs. The BC women will look to capture a second-straight Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championship, while the men's squad will compete for the inaugural Conference Carolinas Men's Swimming Championship.
The Barton College swimming program is set to begin its third season of competition on Friday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. against the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. The Bulldogs will then head to Lexington, Va. the next day to face Howard University and the Virginia Military Institute on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
Barton will have all its home events hosted at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, N.C. for a third consecutive year. BC will host the first of its three home meets on Saturday, Nov. 3 against the University of Mary Washington beginning at 1 p.m.
"We have a strong schedule that will provide our swimmers with the opportunity to compete in close meets throughout the season," said third-year head coach Tyler Ziegler. "As we enter our third season I am excited to see our growth as we compete against teams for the second and third times."
Following a week off, the Bulldogs return to action on Oct. 27 with a tri-meet in Raleigh, N.C. against William Peace University and conference foe, King University.
The women's squad will host Peach Belt Conference member UNC Pembroke on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. before both squads hit the road to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invite. The two-day event will take place on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and will be hosted by Randolph Macon College in Richmond, Va.
BC returns to the pool following a winter break with a matchup at Lenoir-Rhyne University on Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
In their final tune-up before the postseason, the Bulldogs will host St. Andrews University and conference foe, Chowan University in Rocky Mount, N.C. on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.
New for the 2018-19 season is the addition of men's swimming as a championship sport by the Conference Carolinas. The league will include five institutions that will sponsor men's swimming, Barton, Chowan, Emmanuel College, King University, and Lees-McRae College.
The inaugural Conference Carolinas Men's Swimming Championship will be held in conjunction with the 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championship and Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships, which are scheduled to take place February 6-9, 2018 in Charlotte, N.C. at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
